Leather chains give a distinctive look to your jewelry. Leather is an inexpensive alternative to sterling silver for pendants and beaded jewelry. Take a simple leather cord and turn it into a chic chain.

Instructions

    • 1

Select your leather or leather cord and cut it so that it is 2 inches longer than your desired length. For example, to make a 16-inch chain, cut 18 inches of leather.

    • 2

Fold 1 inch of the end of the leather to create a loop.

    • 3

Make a square knot at the base of the loop.

    • 4

      Pull the knot tight.

    • 5

      Trim the excess leather.

    • 6

Repeat at the other end of the leather. If you are using a commercial finding, such as a spring clasp, add it to the loop before you tie the knot.

    • 7

Add an "S" clasp after you have tied both ends, if you are not using a commercial finding.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add a drop of glue to the knot as a precaution.
