Things You'll Need:
- Outdoor Christmas Lights
- Extension Cords
- Ladder
- Staple Gun and Staples
- Sticky Tack
-
Step 1
First, locate the nearest electrical outlet. You will want to make sure your cord can reach it. If you do not have an outdoor outlet, you can purchase outlets that will screw into porch lights.
-
Step 2
Run an extension cord along the ground until it reaches the door or window. This way, you will not have a glowing string of lights reaching all the way to the electrical outlet. Instead, plug the lights into the extension cord.
-
Step 3
Measure the perimeter of the door or window, and make sure your lights will go all the way around it. If not, consider joining two strands of lights together.
-
Step 4
Start at the bottom of the window or door, and run the lights up and around the frame, ending back at the bottom. Attach the lights with a staple gun or sticky tack (available at any craft store). While a staple gun will hold the lights in place much easier than the sticky tack, the benefit of the sticky tack is that it will not leave any holes. Use a ladder to reach the tops of the windows if needed.
-
Step 5
Double-back with any leftover length of lights, or simply remove the bulbs so that they do not glow. That way, the lights will outline the window or door and nothing else.
