How to Lift a Motorcycle for a Tire Change

Motorcycles are becoming a popular mode of transportation. With every type of vehicle comes standard repairs. One repair that can often occur on a motorcycle is the need to change a flat tire. Unlike a car, you can't just jack up the axle on the tire that is flat. So with the right items and techniques, you can easily lift your motorcycle to change the tire.

  1. Lifting a Motorcycle for a Tire Change

      Cut two 3-foot pieces of rope.

      Tie each piece of rope around each side of the handlebars.

      Hold the two ropes in the air and tie them together at the end.

      Tie another longer piece of rope to where the two ropes from the handlebars meet.

      Throw this rope over the rafters in your garage and slowly pull on the end of the rope and raise the bike. Tie the rope to a secure object in the garage to keep the bike suspended in the air. This is to change the front tire. To change the rear tire, you will use these same techniques but you tie the two 3-foot ropes to the frame below the seat and above the rear tire.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want want a more permanent way to lift your motorcycle, consider buying a motorcycle jack (see link in Resources). Motorcycle jacks fit in the center on the bottom of your bike and raise the entire bike.
