How to Apply Goth Makeup
Gothic trends have started to come back into style and are all the rage. With avant-garde movies such as "REPO! The Genetic Opera" and of course, the films of Tim Burton, we see gothic fashion everywhere. Even Gucci went gothic in the 2003 autumn/winter runway show. One of the absolute key elements of any gothic look is the makeup. Smoky eyes and dark lips are crucial for the gothic look, on both girls and guys. Many goths opt for creating a snowy complexion with foundation and powder. Does this Spark an idea?

A pale complexion is one staple of the gothic look. When purchasing a foundation, go for a powder that can be blended easily with a brush and is one shade lighter than your normal skin tone.

Dab your powder brush lightly into the powder, tapping off any excess back into the container. You want your foundation to look smooth and blended, not cakey.

Brush the powder over your entire face and neck, making sure to blend in around the jawbone. Make sure the powder is completely blended; this is very important.
Eyes

Gothic eye makeup is dramatic; so when applying the liquid or pencil eyeliner, make the lines thicker so it stands out as much as possible.

Start by applying the liquid or pencil eyeliner to your upper lid, slightly extending it out beyond the end of your eye and bringing it around the inside corner of your eye.

Continue applying the eyeliner into your bottom lash line until you reach the end of your eye. For a smudgy look on your bottom lash line, smear the eyeliner using the Q-tip.

Apply a coat of black mascara to your top and bottom lashes. If you're going for a chunky look, apply several layers until you have a separated, spidery lash.
Lip Color

When most people think "gothic," they immediately think of black lipstick. However, the gothic look has opened up, so feel free to use dark wine, cherry red and mahogany lip colors as well.

Dab the lip brush into the lip color, making sure not to get any chunks on the bristles. Using a lip brush instead of a stick will help create an even outline around your natural lip line.

Apply the lipstick to your lips with the brush, dabbing into the lipstick as needed for more color.

Tips & Warnings
Liquid eyeliner can be tricky. When applying, feather it on your eyelids instead of attempting to brush on one long strip; it will appear more even this way. For a smoky eye, apply dark blue or black eye shadow to your upper lid. Also, using a brush, smudge the eye shadow into your lower lash line, blending it as low as you want for a more dramatic look.
Liquid eyeliner can burn if you get it in your eye. Use with caution.
