How to Make Your Own Rice Milk
Rice milk is a drink derived from rice grains. It has a similar consistency to that of soy milk and almond milk. It often serves as an alternative to cow's milk used by people who are vegan or who have allergies to or an intolerance to the protein or lactose contained in animal milk. Buying rice milk regularly can be a little bit on the pricey side. Fortunately, you can make rice milk fairly easily at home while saving money at the same time.

Instructions
Things You'll Need
- Large saucepan
- 1/2 tsp. sea salt
- 1/2 cup whole-grain brown rice
- 1/8 tsp. granulated kelp (optional)
- Blender
- 3 Tbsp. maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
-
-
1
Combine 64 oz. of water, 1/2 tsp. of sea salt, 1/2 cup whole-grain brown rice and 1/8 tsp. of kelp (optional) in a large saucepan.
-
2
Place a lid on top of the saucepan, place the pan on the stovetop on a high heat setting and wait until it comes to a rapid boil.
-
3
Reduce the heat setting to low, and allow the mixture to simmer for three hours, checking it often to see when the rice becomes extremely soft.
-
4
Remove the saucepan from the stovetop, and transfer half of the cooked rice into a blender.
-
5
Add 1 1/2 Tbsp. of maple syrup, 1/4 tsp. of cinnamon and 1/4 tsp. of vanilla extract into the blender. Purée the mixture in the blender for three minutes, or until the ingredients are completely liquefied. (You can add more water for a thinner texture.)
-
6
Pour rice milk from the blender into a container, and set it aside. Transfer the other half of the cooked rice from the saucepan into the blender. Again, add 1 1/2 tsp. of maple syrup, 1/4 tsp. of cinnamon and 1/4 tsp. of vanilla extract into the blender. Purée for three minutes or until the ingredients are liquid.
-
7
Pour the second portion of the rice milk from the blender into the container with the first half. Place an airtight lid on top of the container, and refrigerate it.
-
8
Strain the milk with a large strainer if desired, although this step is not required.
