How to Remove Hypertext Links in My Document

How to Remove Hypertext Links in My Document thumbnail
Removing linked text makes it easier to read a document without interruption.

When you click on a hypertext link it directs you to specific areas of text, or "anchors," in the document, or the text opens up a page in your Internet browser. Hypertext is convenient if you want to jump to places in the document or on the Web, but they are annoying if you'd rather just read the document uninterrupted. In some cases, it's convenient and prudent to just get rid of hypertext links altogether. The removal process varies depending on your word processing software, but many programs follow a fairly standard hypertext removal procedure.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the hyperlink in your document.

    • 2

Click and drag the mouse cursor over the text if you want to completely get rid of it. Press "Delete" and the text disappears. Skip to Step 3 if you prefer to leave the text intact and just remove the clickable link.

    • 3

      Right-click on the hypertext link.

    • 4

Select "Remove Hyperlink." The link disappears, leaving behind the normal document text.

Tips & Warnings

  • This process works in Microsoft Word, Open Office Writer and WordPerfect. If you use an alternate word processor, the procedure could differ.
