Flip-flops are a great way to show off your feet in the summertime, and a great way to show off your flip flops is to decorate them. You can make flip-flops as fancy and customized as you'd like by picking up just a few supplies at a craft store. From pearls and silk flowers to rhinestones and shells, just a few gems can go a long way. Pick up a few pairs of flip-flops and create a pair to match every mood. Just follow a few directions and let your imagination run wild.

    How to Make Fancy Flip-Flops

  1. Step 1

Wipe off the area of your flip-flops that you will be decorating. This will make sure they are free of debris and dust, and will enable the glue to dry and stick properly. Allow to completely dry.

Gather the supplies that you will be decorating with. At a craft store, you can find bags of gems, beads, rhinestones and anything else you could possibly imagine that you might want to put on the flip flop. If you are spending time at the beach, gather small seashells or sea glass to add, and it can make the flip-flops more of a memento. Strips of fabric tied to the upper thongs of the flip-flop also works wonderfully, and you can customize your colors for your favorite school or sports team.

  3. Step 3

Once you have your embellishments selected, decide which method you will be attaching them with. You can use a fine needle and thread to sew the items on, or a strong craft glue that will dry clear. The craft glue allows for greater flexibility in case you make a mistake, but the needle and thread will give a more secure attachment.

  4. Step 4

Place the glue on the area of the flip-flop you wish to decorate, and then attach the object. Hold in place for 30 seconds to give it an initial grip, then allow it to dry on its own. Try not to disturb the piece while you are adding your next piece. Put the glue on one spot or section at a time to prevent it from drying out and having excessive glue buildup on the flip-flop.

  5. Step 5

Have a flip-flop decorating party if you wish. Have everyone bring different items to be added, and it will give you a greater selection to choose from, as well as make the process a lot more fun.

Tips & Warnings
  • Decorating white flip-flops with pearls and satin ribbons makes great footwear for an after-wedding party or reception. Experiment with cheap flip-flops before moving on to decorating expensive ones. Cheap ones can be found at dollar stores or craft stores.
  • Hot glue can be used but only a dab at a time, to prevent burning into the flip-flop.
