Instructions

  1. Doing the Ollie

    • 1

Plant your dominant foot on the scooter floor vertically, so your toes face the handles, then place both hands on the handles and with your off-foot, push forward in a backward-sweeping motion so that you propel yourself forward. Do this until you are going fast enough to balance yourself on the scooter without falling, much as you would on a bike.

    • 2

Twist your dominant foot so it rests planted horizontally at the back of the scooter floorboard, perpendicular to the handles, and plant your off-foot in the same fashion at the tip. Hold on to the handles. This will cause a twisting of the torso; if this is uncomfortable for you, you may vary the procedure by placing one foot in front of the other, both parallel to the handle, dominant foot in the back and off-foot in the front.

    • 3

Bend your knees at a 45 degree angle and spring upward, pushing off your toes and jumping into the air.

    • 4

Tuck your knees in and hold onto the handles while in the air so the scooter comes off the ground and is thrust into midair with you. Keep the front end of the scooter slightly higher than the back end.

    • 5

Upon landing, try to level the scooter so it is parallel to the ground, and land with your knees only slightly bent. Ensure the front wheel is facing forward.

Tips & Warnings

  • When riding scooters, especially when attempting tricks, always wear protective gear to prevent personal injury; a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads are recommended. Attempt tricks on a smooth, dry, flat surface. Clear the area where you will be riding of any obstructions. Ollie in a low-traffic area, clear of people and moving cars.

  • Do not attempt to ollie if you suspect your scooter could have problems; you do not want a wheel to fall off as soon as you land. Do not ollie down a hill until you feel comfortable with ollieing on a flat surface.
