Everyone wants a smooth shave, but they do not necessarily know how to get it. Men commonly complain about getting irritating razor bumps after shaving or not being able to get a close enough shave for a smooth look and feel. Razor bumps can be minimized by using the right shaving products. A close shave can be had by using the proper shaving techniques.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wash cloth Shaving cream Razor Cotton balls or cotton pads Witch hazel Aloe Vera gel
  1. Step 1

Place a wet warm washcloth on the area of your face you will be shaving. Hold the washcloth against the skin for two minutes or until the washcloth is no longer warm. The warm water opens the pores, which allows for a closer shave.

  2. Step 2

Rub shaving cream on the area of your face you will be shaving. Shaving cream adds moisture and slip to help the razor glide smoothly across the face. It also lifts the individual hairs, which makes a closer shave possible.

  3. Step 3

Pull your skin tight using one hand while shaving with the other hand. Pulling the skin tight allows for a closer shave. When shaving, use long slow strokes and shave with the grain (the same direction of the hair growth) instead of against the grain. Shaving with the grain produces less skin irritation. Rinse the razor in water to remove hair and shaving cream from the blades.

  4. Step 4

Rinse your face with a wet cold washcloth. The cold water closes the pores to block dirt from entering them.

  5. Step 5

Cleanse your face with a cotton ball or cotton pad that has been saturated with witch hazel. The witch hazel kills the bacteria that cause shaving bumps; it soothes and cools irritated skin.

  6. Step 6

Massage pure aloe vera gel into the facial skin to moisturize and soothe the skin. Aloe vera is safe to use on all skin types, excluding those who have an allergy to the plant.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always use a new razor for a closer shave. Dual and triple blade razors produce a closer shave with one stroke than single blade razors do.
  • To prevent the spread of bacteria, do not share razors with others.
