If you are like the average family, you do about 300 loads of laundry per year. It costs over $600 on energy and laundry products to keep up with that amount of laundry. Here are some tips to save money and time.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a fabric softener that you already own. Get clothes soft and clean with white vinegar. Just add a quarter cup of white vinegar into the final rinse.

  2. Step 2

Save time by not ironing clothes at all. Just make sure to get clothes out of the dryer as soon as it stops. Hang up anything that might get wrinkled just sitting in the laundry basket.

  3. Step 3

Try to do large loads of laundry. It will save you time and money by doing large loads together.

  4. Step 4

Most laundry detergent is concentrated, so make sure you are following the measurements on the laundry detergent.

  5. Step 5

You can make clothes last longer by turning clothes inside out before you wash them. This reduces snagging and pilling, so you can wear clothes twice as long.

  6. Step 6

Remember that cold water works just as well as hot water to clean clothes. It also extends the life of clothes, because it reduces fading. You will also save on energy by not heating up the water to wash clothes.
