How to Build a Homemade Speaker
In an engineering class, you will do this project as an example of electromagnetism. The homemade speakers can be used for any purpose.

Find a round object slightly larger the diameter of the magnet. Take a small piece of paper and wrap around it so the tape in the next part doesn't stick. Wet the art tape and apply three wraps on top of the paper. Cut any excess paper that sticks out from the tape. Let the whole thing dry and you should have a hard cylinder slightly larger than your magnet.

Glue the cylinder to center of the back of a plastic foam plate. Let the glue dry.

Take the enamel coated magnet wire and wrap 75 turns around the cylinder; leave about 2 feet out before you start wrapping, and a 2-foot lead when you finish. Tape down the leads so they don't unravel. Put some glue over the wire to hold it in place.

Attach your magnet to a solid piece of cardboard. The method you use for this will vary depending on the shape and size of your magnet. Don't encase the magnet; otherwise your home made speaker won't work.

You should now have two parts to your speaker. A magnet part and a plastic foam plate part. Cut 2-inch-wide strips of poster board and bend them into a W shape. Use these strips to connect the two parts of your homemade speaker, being careful to line up the magnet so that it sits inside the coil of wire.

Take the ends of the wire and remove the enamel from the last inch or two using sandpaper. Plug these into a radio where the black and red wires go. Use your homemade speaker like any other speaker.
