How to Properly Make Bath Salts
Bath salts are easy to make at home, and cost only a fraction of the price of prepared salts for purchase in a bath and body boutique. They make great gifts, and are nice to use any time you need to relax with a hot bath. Try this easy method and learn to make bath salts properly. This recipe makes approximately 12 applications. Things You'll Need
- Epsom salt Sea salt Baking soda Liquid vegetable glycerin Essential oil Food coloring Tub or jar with lid Decorative labels (optional)

Combine two cups of Epsom salt with one cup of sea salt in a medium sized mixing bowl. Add two tablespoons of baking soda to the mixture, and stir to combine.

Add ¼ teaspoon liquid vegetable glycerin, 40-50 drops essential oil of choice, and 5-10 drops food coloring of choice. Add more or less food coloring, depending on how dark you want the color of the bath salts.

Stir thoroughly to combine all ingredients. Make adjustments to the amount of essential oil and food coloring, as necessary. The color may be completely omitted, if desired, or if there is possibility of an allergy.

Spoon the bath salts into a tub or jar, and label with contents. Add a decorative label listing the ingredients, if you'll be giving the bath salts as a gift.

Store bath salts in a cool, dry place, such as under a bathroom cabinet. Do not leave them on the side of the tub in the humidity, as they may become sticky and hard to use. To use, add approximately ¼ cup of the mixture to the bath water and swish to combine.

Tips & Warnings
Not all essential oils are suitable for bath and body products. Some safe essential oils to use for bath salts include lavender, chamomile, neroli, rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, rosemary and rose geranium. All of the ingredients used to make these bath salts can be found at natural health stores, craft and hobby stores, some drug stores or can be ordered online.
