How to Get a Wireless Router to Work With Dial-up
Did you know that you can use a broadband wireless router with a dial-up connection? If you are still using a dial-up service to connect to the Internet, and you want to share the connection with laptops and computers around your house or office, you can do so using a wireless router that has a port that will allow you to insert a phone line. Keep in mind that the connection probably won't be as fast as cable or DSL. The router doesn't speed up the dial-up connection, it only disseminates it.

1
Purchase a wireless access point and a router that is compatible with dial-up external modems. Connect the dial-up modem (installed and ready for use) and the wireless access point to the router.
-
2
Load up your dial-up service and connect to the Internet.

3
Open the Windows Internet Connection Sharing (WICS) program to configure your computer to work as a "host." Go to "Network Connections" and right-click the dial-up connection. Go to "Properties>Advanced>Internet Connection Sharing" to select the option to allow other computers to connect to the Internet using your "Host" computer and the option to establish a dial-up connection. When the prompt asks if you are sure, click "Yes" to confirm. When you do this, you share your Internet connection with other computers, even if on dial-up.

4
Load up your other computers (which should have their own wireless adapters installed to catch the signal) and use the wireless service to find your host computer's dial-up connection, just as you would with a regular DSL or cable modem connection.

Tips & Warnings
You may have to set up all of your computers to act as a network in order for this to work properly. The instructions for networking computers depends on your operating system (with Windows XP the process is done with a few simple clicks). See links below for specific instructions on how to set up a computer network.
Add an anti-virus and anti-spyware security program on your computer, even if you are only using dial-up to protect your computer from attacks.
Routers with an RS-232 port made specifically for dial-up connections are almost impossible to find. You probably will have to buy one of these rare routers used from a private party.
The more computers that are connected to your dial-up connection, the slower the connection will be.
