Step 1
Go to a Java test website like Java Tester (see Resources). The box next to "LIVE" will indicate if your web browser can run Java applets.

Check your settings. In Internet Explorer 4.x and up, click on "Tools" from the menu and select "Internet Options." Click on the "Advanced" tab and scroll down until you see the section "Java (Sun)." Make sure the box next to the Java version is checked off. Next, go to the "Security" tab and click on the "Custom Level" button. Scroll down to the "Scripting" section and make sure the radio button next to "Enable" is checked (under "Scripting of Java applets").
In Mozilla 5.0, click on Tools and select "Options." Click on "Content" and make sure "Enable Java" is checked.

Step 3
To check Java control panel settings, click on the "Start" menu. Select "Control Panel." Double-click on "Java." Then click on the "Java" tab. Click on the "View" button under the "Java Application Runtime Settings" section. Make sure the box next to the Java version in the Enabled column is checked. Click "OK."
