How to Write the Old English Alphabet

Writing the Old English alphabet is far from a crumbling art.

The English language has gone through many changes and variations during its history. Letters have been added, combined and dropped from the alphabet. Even the styles of writing have been altered through the years. But one style that continues to have its own unique design is that of writing in the Old English Style. Those who know how to write the Old English Alphabet have a very special talent which continues to be popular in modern days.

Things You'll Need

• Computer
• Internet access
• Writing paper
• Pen or pencil

Instructions

1. Log on to your computer and search for Omniglot.com (see Resources). Scroll down until you locate the Old English Alphabet.

2. Using your paper and pen or pencil, begin writing the upper and lower case letters to get use to the feel of writing Old English. Do this until you have a good grasp on the Old English style. Study the particular combinations of letters and uses.

3. Practice each day, taking five letters at a time until the style is second nature to you. Then move on to the next set of letters and practice writing them.

4. Begin using the letters to write words and sentences once you feel you are fluent in the Old English style. Daily practice will have you writing like in the Old English style like an expert.
