It is not recommended to listen to your iPod using headphones while driving in the car. Not only is it dangerous to completely cancel out the noises from the road like that, it is often illegal in many cities across the country. There is an alternative, however. In just a few short steps you can connect your iPod to your car stereo and use your car's speakers to listen to your music, podcasts and audio books. No brand of car stereo makes it easier to make this wonderful connection than Pioneer.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Apple iPod Pioneer car stereo Mini-jack cable
  1. Step 1

Plug one end of the mini-jack cable into your iPod's headphone jack. Once this is done, set your iPod either on your dashboard or your car seat in such a manner that it won't fall over during driving.

  2. Step 2

Locate your Pioneer stereo's auxiliary input jack. Often it is located on the front faceplate of the stereo, but it may also be under the faceplate or on the back of the unit altogether. If the auxiliary jack is on the back of the stereo itself, you will have to remove it from the dashboard. If it comes to this, consult the instructions that came with your stereo for further guidance.

  3. Step 3

Plug the other end of the mini-jack cable into the stereo's auxiliary port. This will allow your iPod to send the audio signal through the cable into the stereo, and the stereo will pass the signal along to your car's speakers. Most of the time, when something is plugged into the stereo's auxiliary jack, it will work over the stereo. On some models, you may have to select a setting to use the auxiliary jack. Whatever the case, you can now sit back and enjoy your iPod on that long car trip.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are other methods of connecting your iPod to your car stereo if you are unhappy with the auxiliary jack method. FM Transmitters and Tape Deck Adapters will also let you listen to your iPod over your car's speakers.
