When you try to surf the web and are constantly bombarded by pop-up ads it can be extremely annoying. For this reason, most computer users enable a pop-up blocker. Pop-up blockers can make site jumping hassle free. Occasionally, however, we run across websites that offer information that we need as a pop-up in a new window. It is during times like this that we need to know how to disable the pop-up blocker that we have installed. You can disable the pop-up blocker for all websites, or just for specific ones.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

    Turning Off Pop-ups in Windows

  1. Step 1

Open your Internet browser to any page. For the sake of this example, Internet Explorer is used. The first pop-up blocker to turn off would be the one in Windows.

  2. Step 2

Left click on "Tools" above your Explorer toolbar.

  3. Step 3

Scroll down and click on "Pop-up blocker," then click on "Turn off pop-up blocker."

  4. Step 4

Follow Steps 1 and 2, and if you wish to select specific sites to continue to allow pop-ups, instead of clicking on "Turn off pop-up blocker," click on "Pop-up blocker settings." (You can choose to allow pop-ups only on specific sites, which will leave the ones that annoy you disabled).

  5. Step 5

  7. Step 1

Disable the pop-up blocker in your toolbar. Even though you may have your pop-ups turned off in Windows, if you have a toolbar installed on your computer it can still block pop-ups. The most frequently installed toolbars are the Yahoo toolbar and Google toolbar.
