Things You'll Need:
- Hand siphon pump Floor jack and 2 jack stands Wrench set Ratchet and socket set New pump/sending unit assembly O-ring seal New fuel pump
-
Step 1
Park your car in a safe place with a level surface and plenty of room for you to work around the Blazer.
-
Step 2
Relieve the fuel system pressure. Loosen the fuel filler cap and open the hood; locate and remove the fuel pump relay from the fuse block in the engine compartment (the fuse should be marked as "F/Pump").
-
Step 3
Drain the fuel tank through the filler neck, if necessary. You can use a hand-operated siphon pump.
-
Step 4
Raise the rear of the vehicle using a floor jack, and safely support it on two jack stands.
-
Step 5
Disconnect the black, negative battery cable. Support the fuel tank with a jack and remove the tank straps using a wrench or ratchet and sockets.
-
Step 6
Disconnect the fuel lines, vapor hose and fuel pump electrical connector from the pump/sending unit assembly on the tank. If necessary, lower the tank enough using the floor jack to reach the hose fittings; then lower the fuel tank to the floor.
-
Step 7
Remove the cam lock securing the pump/sending unit assembly to the tank. Use a long punch and a light hammer to turn the cam lock counterclockwise. Once you release the cam lock, lift the pump/sending unit off the fuel tank. Replace the old pump with the new unit. Install a new O-ring seal around the mounting base of the pump/sending unit assembly; set the assembly in the tank and close the cam lock.
-
Step 1
Connect the fuel lines, vapor hose and electrical connector to the pump/sending unit assembly and lift the tank to its mounting position.
-
Step 2
Secure the tank to the vehicle frame with the straps. Lower the Blazer, install the fuel pump relay and connect the black, negative battery cable.
-
Step 3
Refill the tank with fuel, start the engine and check for leaks.
