Things You'll Need:
- Jack, Jack stand
- New rotor, brake pads
- Hex screw
- wrench (plus extension
- oil penetrator
- Bungee cord or string (for holding the caliper out of the way)
- disk brake compression tool or C clamp.
-
Step 1
The front new rotors and pads.
-
Step 2
Jack up the car. Remove wheels to expose the brake caliper and rotor.
-
Step 3
Using a flat screwdriver remove the clips from the caliper at the arrow, and circled part should pop out. Next relieve the pressure off the caliper piston by using the screwdriver to prepare it for removal.
-
Step 4
Locate the caliper bolt covers on the back of the caliper.
-
Step 5
Remove both caliper bolt covers.
-
Step 6
Use a hex bolt to remove the bolts.
-
Step 7
Pull both bolts out.
-
Step 8
Slide Caliper out and place either on a box or let it hand by a string, so not that put pressure on the brake hose.
-
Step 9
Remove brake pads. One of which has a wire sensor attached.
-
Step 10
Use a flat screwdriver to open the sensor attachment and remove.
-
Step 11
My old pads compared to the new. Worn out pretty bad.
-
Step 12
There are 2 caliper mount bolts.
-
Step 13
You may need penetrating oil and extensions to loosen the bolts as they are usually held tight with Locktite solution.
-
Step 14
The old rotor is off.
-
Step 15
Install everything in reverse order. Before installing pads, you have to push the pistons back by either using a piston compression tool shown or a clamp.
-
Step 16
Here is a picture of my new rotor and pads with my calipers painted red. (I will add a ehow article on caliper painting soon.)
