When you begin the PLAN step, you should consider your audience and why you are giving the presentation. consider what generally appeals to the group and why they may want to know about your subject. You will determine with the person requesting the presentation how much time you will have and what type of visual aids may be relevant and usable at the location of the presentation.

As you move to the PREPARE step, start by thinking about both the beginning and ending of your speech. Afterwards, add the detail in the middle that supports your strong start and end. Now that you know what to say and are aware of your visual aid limitation, think about how you can make the presentation memorable by developing any visuals that may accompany the presentation making sure their flow matches the speech. When developing visuals, remember you don't want people fumbling with handouts or noting spelling errors when they could be listening.

During the PRACTICE step, you will rehearse multiple times to get your timing and topic perfected. While giving the presentation out loud to yourself, you may think of details you may want to add for your specific audience and other items your wish to drop for sake of time.

Because you went through the other steps, when you finally PERFORM you will be confident. You should be able to avoid looking nervous by using too many um's and uh's, grasping the podium, or putting hands in your pockets when speaking. Be sure you get to your speaking location early so you are ready to go and not looking frazzled. After you present, be sure to ask for some feedback. This can boost your confidence for next time or give you some feedback for what you could do better if you give the presentation again.
