With the recession, everyone is looking for a bargain on all of their purchases. You may think that you can't find a deal on a cheap laptop computer, but you can, if you do your research and have a realistic goal in mind.

Here are a few ideas for finding a laptop on a budget:

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Budget
  • Access to Internet for Research and possibly to purchase your new laptop
  • Patience
  • Open Mind
  1. Step 1
    FatWallet.com

    FatWallet.com

Visit online deal forums, such as Fatwallet.com and Slickdeals.net (See links below, listed under Resources). If there is a current deal on a laptop, you can bet that it will be listed on one or both of these forums.

If you see a deal that works for you, make sure to snatch it up quickly because deals listed on these forums never last very long.

  2. Step 2
    ebay

    ebay

Check out ebay for deals on refurbished laptops. Usually, a seller will have many of the same laptops selling at the same time. Watch to see what they are selling for and make your bid accordingly. Of course, make sure to check out the seller's feedback before bidding and make sure that you can pay with PayPal because there are many safeguards in place when purchasing with PayPal.

  3. Step 3
    Rent A Center

Visit your local Rental centers to see if they have any used laptops for sale. Try to bargain the price down a bit, it never hurts to try. Make sure to ask about their warranty on an used laptop computer, too.

  4. Step 4
    You Found a Deal!

    You Found a Deal!

Think outside the box. Is the lease almost up on the laptops at your place of employment? Maybe they would be willing to sell the laptop to you at a low price. Ask your friends and family to ask around for you. Send a bulletion out on your Social Networking pages and via an email, too. It never hurts to ask and you never know, you just might find a cheap deal on a laptop this way.

Tips & Warnings
  • Laptops get a lot of wear and tear. For this reason it might be wise to purchase a warranty on one, especially if you are purchasing a used laptop computer.
  • If purchasing a new laptop online, make sure to search for any online coupon codes and to shop through ebates.com if the merchant participates with them, to earn more cash back.
  • If you purchase a refurbished laptop computer, expect that it will not be in perfect condition. It may have a scratch or two or even a key that kind of sticks.
