How to Clean a Foggy Headlight Lens

Clearing up a hazy appearance is a simple task.

Foggy headlights affect not only the look of the car, but also the way things look from the car by giving off a dimmer version of the light it once provided. While foggy headlights may not be a safety issue, they can be irritating. Clearing up that hazy appearance is a simple task that won’t take much time or money and will have headlights looking like new in no time.

Things You'll Need

• Drill
• Clean soft cloth
• White toothpaste
• Carburetor cleaner
• WD-40
• Rubbing compound

Instructions

1. Drill a small hole in the bottom of the lens to relieve condensation; fresh air will alleviate and prevent condensation.

2. Apply white toothpaste to a soft clean cloth and rub the lens with it in small circular motions. Rinse the lens with clean water before the toothpaste dries.

3. Spray carburetor cleaner on a dry clean cloth and wipe the lens thoroughly.

4. Spray WD-40 on the lens and polish the lens.

5. Apply rubbing compound to the lens with a soft clean cloth and buff the shine back with a separate dry clean cloth.

• Wear gloves and work in a properly ventilated area when dealing with chemicals.
