How to Install MSN on Windows Vista

Microsoft keeps updating its popular MSN Messenger or Windows Live Messenger program with new features, menus and ease-of-use functionalities. The Redmond-headquartered company recommends latest-version upgrades of MSN Messenger to its vast user base. Further, older versions of MSN Messenger are reputedly facing some compatibility issues with Windows Vista. So it is advisable to install the latest version of MSN Messenger on your Windows Vista-installed PC.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Call up the MSN home page by following the link in Resources.

  2. Step 2

    Click "Messenger" link at the top of the home page. Click the "Download" link under the "Windows Live Messenger" icon. You will be taken to a page that explains how to join in two easy steps.

  3. Step 3

    Select "Windows Live Messenger" in Step 2 from the drop-down menu after selecting the country of your location in Step 1. You will be prompted to either run or save the application.

  4. Step 4

    Click "Run" and allow the "Messenger" program to download. The download time will depend on your Internet connectivity speeds. Click "Run" again when you see the prompt "Do you want to run this software?" The Windows Live Messenger Setup Wizard will open. To install, click "Next."

  5. Step 5

    Check the "I Accept the Terms of Use and Privacy Statement" box. Choose from the additional features and settings and check the boxes accordingly. Wait as the wizard installs Windows Live Messenger. This will take a few minutes. After the message "Windows Live Messenger Has Been Installed" flashes, click "Close."

  6. Step 6

    Open the installed Messenger program to make sure it works properly. Check all of the features. Sign in with your Hotmail ID and start chatting with your friends.

Tips & Warnings
  • Restart the computer if needed to ensure that the installation process was successful. All of your contacts, your Friends list and your favorite emoticons are retained with the new MSN Messenger installation.
