How to Light a Gas Heater
Even if a gas heater has been properly installed, it will not produce heat until the pilot light has been lit. Even after the pilot is lit, it may be necessary to relight the pilot from time to time, particularly if a draft is present. Follow the instructions below to light the pilot on a gas heater. Locate the gas valve on the front of the heater. The gas valve is usually red in color. Note that the valve reads "on," "off" and "pilot." Also note the red button located next to the gas valve.

Turn the valve to the "off" position by twisting it, then wait at least five minutes for any gas to dissipate.

Turn the valve to the "pilot" setting.

Insert a lit match or grill igniter through the opening in the heater just below the gas valve until it rests against the burner.

Depress the red button next to the gas valve with the flame resting against the burner to light the heater.
