How to Operate a Pop Riveter
Riveting is a fastening technique prized for its lightweight and high strength capabilities. When nails or screws are simply not strong enough, the use of rivets is an excellent alternative. Take the two objects to be joined and place one on top of the other. Line the two objects up in the manner you want them to be riveted. Then, use a clamp to tightly hold the objects together.

Use your drill to bore a hole all the way through both objects. Make sure you use a drill bit that is the same diameter as your rivet.

Place the long, narrow end of the rivet into your pop riveter.

Insert the other end of the rivet all the way through the drill hole.

Pull the trigger on the riveter. Do so a couple times until the gun makes a popping sound. This signals that the head of the rivet has expanded to lock the two pieces together.

Unclamp the objects and ensure that the rivet has created a tight hold.

Tips & Warnings
Rivets are most commonly used to fasten metal objects, particularly metal sheeting. However, they can also be used to fasten plastic, wood and other materials. When working with wood, the use of wood rivets may be necessary. Similarly, plastic rivets may be required for plastic applications.
