How to Apply Grommets
Grommets are metal rings that are attached to fabrics to reinforce a hole so that a line or rod can be inserted through them. They're easy to apply either by hand or with a setting tool. Traditionally used in sails and shower curtains, grommets are making their way into home decor. Learning how to successfully apply grommets takes only a few moments.

Place grommets on the fabric where you want to apply them.

Trace around the inner circle of the grommet.

Cut out the circle of fabric by scoring an X in it and snipping away the extra fabric. Some grommet tools come with a hole cutter.

Place one half of the grommet on each side of the fabric, around the hole. The piece of the grommet that sticks out goes on the front of the fabric.

Snap the grommets together by hand or use a grommet tool. Make sure each grommet faces in the same direction.

Use a rubber mallet to gently pound the two sides together if they don't form a tight bond.

Tips & Warnings
Buy grommets that are about 1/2" larger in diameter than the drapery rod if you're making curtains.
Protect your work surface so the grommets don't damage it.
