How to Make Jewelry for Kids
The benefits of making jewelry for kids is two-fold: It's fun for you to craft one-of-a-kind pieces, and it's equally fun for kids to wear them. If you're making a necklace or bracelet, but you aren't sure of the size, use a flexible material as your base. Elastic thread is a great choice--it stretches to fit. Here are some tips for easy-to-make jewelry for kids.

1
Browse through a hardware store, and pick up a wide assortment of nuts, bolts, wire, tubing and more. String items in random order on elastic thread for a bracelet, and just tie the thread in a double knot when you're through. If you prefer, make a playful pin by gluing hardware items onto a piece of painted cardboard or a cork with a safety pin on the back.

Make a simple clay-bead bracelet. Create round, square and odd-shaped beads from self-hardening clay. (Make the beads on the small side, so the bracelet isn't too large and cumbersome for a little wrist.) Poke a hole through each bead with a toothpick--wiggle it around, so the hole is large enough to accept a string of elastic thread. Let the beads dry; paint them with bright acrylic colors; let the paint dry. With a needle, thread elastic thread through the holes, and tie it in a double knot.

Create a bean bracelet or necklace. Use kidney beans for a bracelet or garbanzo beads for a necklace--or do a combination of beans. Soak the beans in water overnight. Thread a needle with elastic thread, and poke through one wet bean at a time. When you're done, tie the elastic thread into a double knot. The beans will dry on the thread.
