Tips on writing a good Essay

Here are some tips for writing a guaranteed A+ essay.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Write for a purpose.
Find your purpose, whether it be writing to convince your reader of your idea(s), or writing to inform your reader about something, always know what your purpose is, if you have a purpose then you have a reason to write good.

  2. Step 2

Have an Audience. Know who you are writing for and how they feel about a particular subject.

  3. Step 3

Know your Tone. Decide up front how you feel about the subject you are writing about and how you want to "speak" to your audience about it. For instance an example of Tone might be, angry, convincing, sympathetic, urgent or arguing.

  4. Step 4

Have a strong Thesis Statement. A strong thesis statement makes all the difference in the world, because with out a main point or argument your essay is nothing.
When writing a strong thesis statement there are 4 things you should remember. 1. Don't write a highly opinionated statement 2. Don't make an announcement. 3. Don't make a factual statement. 4. Don't make a broad statement.

A thesis statement is all about presenting your position on a subject.

  5. Step 5

Use lively words, statements and strong verbs. Try not to do this: "The crowd seemed pleased when the team scored a point." Instead try this: "The crowd cheered and whistled as the basketball team scored a point"
See how just the change of a few words made the sentence much more interesting?

  6. Step 6

There is a rule when writing essays that is very important to remember: "Tell them what your going to tell them, Tell them, and then tell them what you told them."
This simply means that you are to have an introduction, a body, and a conclusion that re-states what you've already told them.

  7. Step 7

Revision, revision, revision! Always revise. This means to read, and re-read your rough draft and keep making it better and better, by adding more content, making things a little bit clearer if they didn't really seem to make sense, just cleaning up the rough edges of your paper.

  8. Step 8

Lastly, do your research. You need a creditable source to back up your points about something, so find people that have already done the work for you, read what they have to say, this will give you more ideas and defiantly more credibility making your reader(s) pay more attention to you and your point.
