Women with straight hair or hair that does not have much natural body often look for ways to increase the curls and waves in their hair.

One easy and inexpensive way to achieve natural-looking body, waves and curls is to set hair in hair curlers or rollers before sleeping at night. The hair will dry overnight and in the morning the curlers can be removed and the hair can be styled with the added curls and waves.

How to Use Hair Curlers and Rollers

  1. Step 1

Wash hair prior to rolling it in curlers, for best results. Once hair is freshly washed and towel dried, completely comb through the hair.

Separate all the curlers and make two piles of curler parts---the inner curler parts and the outer curler parts.

  2. Step 2

Part the hair the way it is typically parted. Beginning on the top front of the head (above the forehead) use the comb to separate a small portion of hair. The portions of hair to be rolled should be approximately 2 inches wide and 1 inch thick. Comb through the separated section thoroughly and pull the section of hair straight up and taut.

Place the curler against the end of the section of hair with the edges of hair resting against the side of the curler. Begin to roll the hair around the curler, keeping the hair tight. Make sure it is lying neatly against the curler while you are rolling.

When the entire section of hair is rolled around the curler and the curler is lying against the head, place the outer portion of the curler around the hair on the inner curler to secure it.

  3. Step 3

Repeat the process of separating small portions of hair, combing the section and tightly rolling up each section on a curler. Secure each curler with the outer part of the curler.

  4. Step 4

Place a towel on your pillow case to protect the pillow case from dampness while sleeping.

  5. Step 5

Remove the hair from each curler carefully the next morning. Lightly fluff the curls and separate them to help them appear natural and attractive. Spray with hair spray if desired.
