When fighting acne, the first place to start the fight is by making sure that one's face is clean and free of bacteria. It may seem overly simple, but often just making sure to wash your face two times every day with plain soap and water can be very effective for improving acne conditions.

The redness and irritation that often accompanies acne can be relieved with a paste made from equal parts of baking soda and plain water. Make this paste and apply it to irritated areas once per day. Allow it to sit for 20 minutes, and then rinse well with warm water to remove.

Another natural paste that can be very effective for treating acne is made from equal parts oatmeal and warm water. Apply the paste to the face and allow to sit for up to 20 minutes. Rinse well with warm water to remove the paste.

Another option is to finely grate one apple, add four tablespoons of raw honey and combine well. This paste should be applied to the face and can sit for approximately 10 minutes. Rinse well with warm water to remove.

Tea tree oil can also be effective when used on break-out areas because tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic and antibiotic.

Another alternative facial mask is to combine one whipped egg white, a small amount of witch hazel, and the juice of half a lemon. Apply this mask to the face and allow to sit for 15 minutes. Rinse well with warm water to remove.
