How to Download Songs to iPod

Before you can listen to music on your iPod, you must first connect it to a computer and download songs onto the device. All new iPods are compatible with both Mac and Windows systems, and all you need to transfer music from your computer to your device is the USB cable that comes in your iPod box.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mac or PC computer iPod iPod USB cable
  1. Step 1

    Plug the iPod USB cable into the bottom of your iPod.

  2. Step 2

    Plug the other end of the iPod USB cable into a free USB port on your Mac or PC computer.

  3. Step 3

    Open the iTunes application by clicking on the Dock icon on a Mac or using the Start menu on a PC.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the name of your iPod under the "Devices" list in the main iTunes window.

  5. Step 5

    Go to the "Music" tab at the top of the iTunes window.

  6. Step 6

    Check the boxes next to the song playlists that you want to download to your iPod, and then click the "Apply" button. The selected songs will begin transferring to your iPod's hard drive.

  7. Step 7

    Click on the eject symbol next to your iPod's name and then disconnect your iPod from the computer.
