Having thick, luscious locks is every girl's dream, but it can be a nightmare to style. Thick hair is usually less responsive to styling into curls than thin or medium hair. However, even thick-haired girls can achieve beautifully wavy locks with just a few tweaks. It may take a little longer than it does for people with thinner hair, but the results will be stunning nonetheless.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large-barrel curling iron Hairspray Bobby pins
  1. Step 1

Blow dry or flat iron your thick hair as straight as possible. This will help smooth out the texture of the hair, making it easier to style.

  2. Step 2

Separate your hair into three sections. Pin the top of the hair and bangs, the middle part and the bottom with bobby pins or clips. Sectioning your thick hair will make it easier to manage when you start to curl it. Heat up the large-barrel curling iron while you prepare your hair. Make sure the heat is at the highest setting, which will be the most effective on your thick hair.

  3. Step 3

Starting from the bottom portion of your hair, take a strand that's about an inch wide and spritz it lightly with hairspray. If your hair is very thick, take a strand that's only half an inch.

  4. Step 4

Pinch the very end of the spritzed strand of hair with the large-barrel curling iron and slowly roll the curling iron toward your scalp. Hold the curling iron in this position for about 20 to 30 seconds in order for the curl to set. If your hair is extremely thick, or if the curl doesn't set right away, hold it for another 20 to 30 seconds.

  5. Step 5

Repeat Step 4 on the rest of your hair until all your hair is curled. When finished, spritz your entire hair with hairspray to hold the curls in place.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use mousse instead of hairspray for a lighter feel with the same strong hold.
  • Hold the curling iron at least an inch away from your scalp to prevent painful burns.
