How to Change Foreground Color in Adobe Photoshop

To design just about anything in Adobe Photoshop, the most important basic element to understand is how to control the colors. The foreground color dictates the color that you write, draw, paint, spray or pour onto your canvas. Follow a few steps to change the foreground color in Adobe Photoshop.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3
  1. Step 1

    Locate your tool bar in Photoshop. Make sure it is open by going to "Windows" and then "Tools." Notice the two squares under the magnifying glass; the white square on top is your foreground color, while the bottom blue square is your background color.

  2. Step 2
    Use the Color Picker to change the foreground color.

    Change your foreground color by clicking the top square, which is white in this example. You will get a menu called the color picker (see photo at left).

  3. Step 3
    Now you can write, draw and make shapes in your foreground color.

    Use the rainbow slider to the right to change the hue and use the large square to perfect which shade you would like to use. Your change will be reflected in the tool bar when you click "OK." Now, when you use the tools in the tool bar, you will be using your new foreground color.

Tips & Warnings
  • To switch quickly between the foreground and background colors, just click the little double-sided arrow in the top right-hand side pointing to both boxes.
