Bumper stickers are a great way to show a bit of your personality on the outside of your car. However, the sentiments you had when the bumper sticker was adhered can often fade. This leaves you stuck with an unwanted sticker on the back end of your vehicle. It may seem like a sticky situation, however there are several simple techniques that can be used to remove your sentiments and allow you to start over with a clean slate.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hair dryer Plastic putty knife WD-40 Water Bucket Mild cleaning detergent Soft cloth Drying towel
  1. Step 1

Turn the hair dryer on to the highest heat setting. Keep the dryer 3 inches from the bumper surface and move it back and forth to heat the sticker adhesive.

  2. Step 2

Use a plastic putty knife to scrape as much of the sticker from the bumper as possible.

  3. Step 3

Spray WD-40 on the residual sticker pieces. Allow it to sit a few moments.

  4. Step 4

Scrape the remaining sticker from the bumper using a plastic putty knife.

  5. Step 5

Mix water and a mild cleaning detergent such as dish soap in a large bucket.

  6. Step 6

Use a soft cloth the wash the WD-40 and sticker residue from the bumper.

  7. Step 7

Rinse the bumper with water and dry it with a towel.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have a heat gun, you can substitute this for the hair dryer. If the sticker starts to bubble up, the hair dryer is too close. You only want to heat the sticker, not melt it. If there are still pieces of sticker on the bumper after the first application of WD-40 you may need to repeat the process. Continue to repeat this until all adhesive is removed.
  • Do not use a metal putty knife as this could scratch your bumper.
