Use a Zune Prepaid Card

Although Microsoft Points cards are normally used for purchases over the Xbox live service, they can also be used as Zune prepaid cards. These cards can be used to purchase monthly subscription Zune Passes, or can be used to purchase individual songs from the Zune program service.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy a Zune/Microsoft Points Card. These cards are interchangeable (they will both add points to a Zune account) and are available at big box retailers like Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy. Regular Microsoft Points cards come in 800-,1,200- and 2,400-point values, and Zune-specific cards only come in a $25 (2,000 point) value.

    • 2

Launch your Zune program. If you have not already downloaded it, visit the official Zune website (see Resources) and install the software before proceeding.

    • 3

Go to the Marketplace tab and click on the "Add Points/Redeem Code" link at the top left. A new window will pop up, and you will be able to select "Add points from card."

    • 4

Input the code from the back of the card and then click "Submit." It is very important that the alphanumeric code be entered exactly as it is on the back of the card, otherwise the transaction will not work. Once the code has been entered correctly, you will see your new points in your Zune balance, which is displayed on the upper right-hand corner of the program. You can then browse the marketplace and buy songs with your new points.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your Zune ID is linked to your Xbox Live Gamertag, you can share points between the two accounts. For instance, if you purchase 1,000 points, and add them to your Xbox Live account, you can access these same 1,000 points in the Zune Marketplace.
