How to Lock an HP Pavilion Laptop

It's essential that anyone using an HP Pavilion laptop (or really any computer) knows how to lock their station. This is an important security precaution. It prevents anyone from meddling in your computer, either on purpose or even by accident (for example, a child crawling in your office while you step out briefly). Practice safe computer usage and remember to lock your computer whenever you leave your laptop unattended.

Instructions

1. 

   Hold down "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" to bring up the Windows security box.

2. 

   The Windows Security box will pop up. Click the "Lock Computer" button.

3. 

   When your computer is locked, a security box hovers on your screen. This tells any user that only the operator can unlock the security protection. To unlock your computer, press "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" once more.

4. At this security box, enter your user name and your password. Your computer immediately returns to the state it was in when you locked it.

• If you want to lock your computer even more quickly, hold down the Windows key and press the "L" key at the same time.
