How to Make Your Own Napkin Rings to Coordinate with Your Decor
Make napkin rings for a special occasion by decorating them with fabric, wallpaper or adhesive paper that fits the occasion. Use silk for an elegant dinner party, gingham for a brunch, denim for a teen party or wallpaper to match you table, room or dinnerware. For a child's birthday party, use the colored comic pages from the Sunday paper. Further embellish the napkin rings to emphasize the theme of the party.

1
Measure a toilet paper or paper towel cardboard roll into 3-inch widths, being careful not to bend or collapse the roll. Mark the lines all the way around the tube so that you will cut straight sections. Fill the roll with paper towels to help maintain its form while you cut with a craft knife.

2
Smooth the cut edges with an emery board.

3
Cut a piece of fabric or wallpaper about 1 inch longer than the napkin ring section and about 1 inch wider. Use white craft glue to glue the covering material on the napkin ring, turning the excess inside the tube and making a neat turned-under edge on the outside of the tube.

4
Embellish as fits the occasion. Add a ribbon with bow around the middle or a piece of lace; print a person's name to use as place markers as well as napkin holders; glue a contrasting binding around the edge;or apply vertical strips of ribbon, tucking the ends to the inside of the tube and gluing. Hot-glue on a jewel, flower or trinket that reflects the occasion, such as a miniature wreath at Christmas.
