Things You'll Need:
- old spoons
- paper towel or toilet paper cardboard rolls
- wire pliers
- wallpaper
- ribbon
- material
- glue
- hot glue
- lace
- emery board
-
Step 1
The first one is to go to thrift stores, flea markets or maybe you have some old spoons yourself.
Use a soup can from your pantry, and with wire pliers bend the spoon around the shape of the can, in a spiral motion. Okay, these are done.
The next ones are easy, but do take just a little more effort. -
Step 2
Cut a toilet paper, or paper towel cardboard roll in about 3" widths, being careful to not bend or collapse. Fill with paper towels to help maintain its form, while you are cutting.
Use a craft knife or a single edge razor to cut with. Mark your lines to make sure they are straight. File the edges with an emery board. -
Step 3
Now the fun part!
Chose your material or wallpaper or Contac paper to match the occasion you will be using the napkin rings for.
For a child's birthday party, you could even use the colored comic pages from the Sunday paper.
Use silk for a elegant dinner party; gingham for an brunch; denim for a teenage party; wallpaper to match you table, room, or dinnerware; toile for a wedding shower; flannel for a baby shower. Anyway you get the idea. -
Step 4
Cut a piece of whatever you are using, about an inch longer than the t.p. roll, and about an inch more than the width. This allows you to glue the excess inside the tube, and make a neat turned under edge on the outside of the tube.
Depending on the occasion, add a ribbon with bow around the middle, or a piece of lace; print a person's name to use as place markers, as well as napkin holders; glue a contrasting binding around the edge; apply vertical strips of ribbon, tucking the ends to the inside of the tube and gluing; Add a piece of jewelry, or jewel, or flower,or an item that reflects the holiday the ring is being used for, such as a miniature wreath at Christmas, a pumpkin at Thanksgiving, a heart for Valentines Day.
These are so easy to make and yet attractive, that you could devote an entire drawer to your napkin holders and napkins. I have a friend that decorates her table with the table setting and napkin rings, and all, for every holiday. It looks really nice.
