Things You'll Need:
- Word 2007
- Internet Connection
- damageddocx2txt.exe

Step 1
Go to the link provided in the resources list at the bottom of the page. Download the dd2tx.zip distribution of damageddocx2txt.exe, by clicking on the damageddocx2txt link.

Step 2
Unzip the file with your unzipper.Unzip the file into the directory of your choice. The dd2txt folder will be created. The freeware damageddocx2txt text extractor is within this folder.

Step 3
Choose your docx file.Double click on damageddocx2txt.exe. Click the Open choice on the File Menu and choose your damaged docx Word 2007 file.

Step 5
Name and save your text file.Then simply click on the File Menu again and choose to Save. Name and save your text file wherever you wish.

Step 6
Copy your test to a new blank word file.Double click on the text file wherever it is and Windows Text Editor should open. Hit Ctl + A on your keyboard to select all the text in the file. Then hit Ctl + C on your keyboard to Copy all the text. Open a new Word file and paste in the text.

It uses the same code as the software you tried, but also has another alternative method for recovering text from corrupt docx files. There is even a third free method, which I'm involved with that might work: htftp://www.saveofficedata.com/hosted-files/corruptofficeextractor.zip

on 10/17/2009 Unfortunately, this software didn't work for me this time, but the program DID tell me my XML file is MIA.
However, this is a great program to have in your artillery. I'm hanging onto it for future reference!
