How to Make Homemade Bubbles and Wands
Bubbles and children are a natural combination. You can improve the two by creating your own bubble mixture and helping your children make their own bubble wands out of recycled materials. The bubble solution requires ingredients you likely already have around your house, and bubble wands can be made with a wide variety of objects, making this a family project that is not only economical but environmentally friendly and fun.

Instructions
Things You'll Need
- 1 cup of liquid detergent
- 1/4 cup of corn syrup
- 3 cups of water
- Popsicle sticks
- Plastic disposable yogurt, margarine or sour cream lids
- Sharp scissors
- Super glue

1
In a large bowl mix the dish detergent, corn syrup and water. Whisk thoroughly to combine all of the ingredients.
-
2
To make the wands, take the lids from plastic disposable containers, such as yogurt, margarine or sour cream lids, or use any other kind of easily cut plastic.
-
3
With a pair of sharp scissors, cut out a circle about an inch in diameter in the middle of the lid. Have an adult help with this, since puncturing the lid can be dangerous. If the lid is larger, try cutting two or three holes in the lid.
-
4
Using super glue, adhere a Popsicle stick to the plastic lid to act as a handle. Allow the glue to dry completely. Avoid getting super glue on your skin; it is difficult to remove.
-
5
Take the bubble mixture and wands outside -- the corn syrup can make these bubbles a bit too messy to use inside -- and dip the bubble wand in the bubble mix. Swing the wand in circles to make bubbles or try blowing the mixture out of the holes.
Try other household items with holes in the bubble solution, such as a clean fly swatter, cookie cutters or whiffle balls.

I remember doing this when I was little! A neat trick you can do is tie a string on each side of a kid-sized hula hoop, and have a little kid stand inside it, then you lift it up and they are inside a bubble! They need to wear goggles though so they don't get soap in their eye when it pops.
