Things You'll Need:
- Newspaper
- pencil
- pins
- 3 yds o 54" transparent silk, voile or organza
- fabric marker
- scissors
- measuring tape
- sewing machine
- matching thread/needle
- iron
-
Step 1
Using the newspaper, carefully trace the shape of the backrest of the chair. This will be your template for cutting the front and the back of the backrest. Cut out the paper template, adding 3/4" all around.
Pin the template to the material, draw around it using a fabric marker.
It won't matter if it is not exactly perfect, the sash will take up any fullness. Trace and cut the seat panel in the same way. -
Step 2
For the depth of the skirt, measure from the seat edge to the floor, then add 3/4" for a seam allowance.
To cut the skirt, add 48" to the circumference of the chair seat
Cut as one panel, in other words the circumference of the chair for the length, and the depth from edge to floor for the height. -
Step 3
With right sides facing, sew the bottom of the front backrest panel to the top of the seat panel.
Hem the bottom of the skirt. Hem the top of the skirt. Press and pin pleats at the four corners of the chair. -
Step 4
For the sash, you will need 2 yards x 16 inches.
Fold the sash in half, right sides together. Sew seams.
Turn right side out and stitch open end
Tie the sash around the base of the backrest, and tie in a loose knot. Let the remaining fabric drape on the floor.
