- 2 T lemon juice
- 1 T olive oil
- 1 tsp chopped garlic
- 2 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp salt (1/2 tsp if using canned beans)
- red pepper (optional)

Step 1
Ingredients needed for homemade hummusHomemade hummus is easy! Get out your blender and a rubber spatula, and proceed to add the listed ingredients to the blender one by one. If using canned beans, 2 cup equals about one can. Drain and save some of the liquid from the can, in case it is needed in step 2. If using home-cooked beans, make sure there is some bean-cooking liquid available in case it is needed.

Add ingredients one by one, waiting until all are added to blendOnce the ingredients have been added, blend until smooth, pausing the blender to scrape the sides with your rubber spatula if necessary. If the mixture is too thick, add more bean-cooking liquid or liquid from the can. Hummus is done when the mixture is smooth with no lumps remaining.

Serve with raw veggies for a healthy snack!Spoon the hummus onto a serving plate and add a light sprinkling of red pepper, if desired. Serve with pita triangles, crackers, or raw vegetables for dipping.
