Many people with short hair feel that they are limited when it comes to styling their hair. The fact is that short hair styles can take on many looks. Short hair can look sleek and sophisticated or fun and funky, depending on your mood or occasion. Funky hairstyles can be easy to create if you use the right products and techniques. Use these tips to make your short hair look funky.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Root lifting spray
  • Hair dryer with a nozzle
  • Ceramic flat iron
  • Hair styling paste
  • Hair smoothing serum
  1. Step 1

Prep your damp hair with a root lifting product. Mist this product throughout your air, then use your hands to make sure that the product is distributed evenly.

  2. Step 2

Use a hair dryer with a nozzle and blow your hair around to dry it. Hold the dryer underneath your hair or flip your head over to give your hair some movement. Rather than a brush or comb, use your hands to push your hair in different directions while you dry it.

  3. Step 3

Turn your ceramic flat iron on and turn it to a medium to high setting. Let the iron heat up before you use it.

  4. Step 4

Clamp the iron over the tips of your hair to give it more of a straight finish.

  5. Step 5

Put about a nickel-size amount of styling paste in the palm of your hand.

  6. Step 6

Add a few drops of hairstyling serum to the paste that is in your hand. Then, rub your hands together to mix the two products together.

  7. Step 7

Work this product mixture through the ends of your hair. Doing so will allow your hair to be more pliable in its final look

  8. Step 8

Look in the mirror and notice the shape that your hairstyle is taking. Determine whether you want to flat iron more pieces outward, under or straight.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't use the iron to pull your hair down. Instead, you should flip out some ends and pull other portions of your hair outward. This will give your hair a more "sleek" and funky look. Rather than flat ironing from the root to the tip, you should start to flat iron about half way down the strand of hair. Otherwise, your hair will not have any volume near the roots.
