1
Make a list of employees who are currently working for your business. Before you can begin the process of making a fully functioning employee schedule, you'll need to know every member of your team. If you haven't updated your employee records for a while, this will provide you with the perfect opportunity to purge your old records and organize those that remain.

2
Create a list of available work hours. In order to produce multiple work shifts for employees to choose from, figure out how long you'd like each work shift to be. Depending on the hours of your business, your employee schedules can range as short as two hours and as long as eight hours.

3
Divide employees into groups of full time and part time workers. After making a list of currently working employees, categorizing them according to their job status can also help you create an employee schedule. If an employee is a part time worker, they won't work as many hours as a full time employee. Shorter work shifts may benefit them best because it offers them a lighter work schedule.

4
Compose a form that allows employees a chance to pick their preferred work schedule. This will offer you an easier way to schedule employees to cover all open business hours. Knowing their preferences can allow you to place them in an available work shift that's convenient for you and them. When making this type of form, make sure that employees are able to pick more than one preferred work shift because this will prevent you from having to guess for them.

5
Set ground rules for the employee schedule. For longer work shifts, create specified times for short breaks, lunch breaks or dinner breaks. Employees won't have to work through an entire shift without relaxing for a bit. If a work schedule is extremely short, make sure that the employee understands and agrees to no scheduled or unscheduled breaks. You'll also need to restrict the number of work hours for an individual employee. Each employee will have to work a minimum and maximum amount of employees to maintain their current work status.
