You can create messy beach waves, tight "Shirley Temple" ringlets, or natural looking waves all with a one-inch barrel curling iron. Read on to learn how.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mousse
  • Hairspry
  • Anti-frizz serum
  • Shine serum
  1. Step 1

Create beachy, messy waves. Let your hair air-dry, and then apply mousse. Starting about an inch from the ends of your hair, roll one-inch pieces of hair in different directions using your hot curling iron. Make sure the clasp of the iron is on the opposite side of the direction you roll the hair. Hold the iron in place for about 10 seconds. With your fingers, break up the curl into several looser strands. Finish with a light spritz of hairspray or anti-frizz serum.

  2. Step 2

Create big bouncy sophisticated waves. Start by washing your hair. Next, apply a straighting lotion, and then blow-drying the hair straight. Part the hair either on the side or in the middle. Roll two-inch sections of hair halfway up the hair shaft in varying directions. Hold each roll in place for fifteen seconds. Brush the curls with hairbrush, and spray with a light spritz of hairspray. The curls should have movement. Finish by rubbing a shine serum in your palms, and gently applying all over.

  3. Step 3

Create tight ringlets by letting your curls remain in tact. Roll half inch sections of hair in a hot curling iron all the way up to the root. Hold each roll in place for twenty five seconds. Spray your entire head with a heavy dose of hairspray, and finish with anti-frizz serum. No need to brush your hair, just use your fingers to loosen the curls.

  4. Step 4

Use the curling iron to create a "flip." Slightly roll the ends of your hair upward and away from your face, holding the curling iron in place for two seconds all the way around your head. Spray lightly with hairspray to keep the hair flipped.

  5. Step 5

Let your hair air dry and curl it starting at the root, rolling down to the tip to create spiral loose waves. Be sure you leave the ends of your hair out to create more natural curls. Hold each roll about five seconds. Use your fingers to break up the waves. Finish with a little hairspray or anti-frizz serum.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can protect your hair from heat with heat protector sprays found at salons and drug stores.
  • Be careful not to burn yourself with the curling iron. Do not curl your hair if you are distracted.
