How to Delete Google Search History

Each time you search for a term in the Google search engine, it saves a copy of that term and will show it to your later if you attempt to search for a similar term. If you have search terms that you'd rather weren't up for display for everyone who uses your computer, you can delete your search history. The method will change depending on whether you are using the Google Toolbar, Firefox or Internet Explorer.

Instructions

    Method #1 - Google Toolbar

  1. Step 1

    Open your web browser and navigate your mouse pointer to the white Google search box in the upper-left corner. Click on the blue icon with the downward arrow to bring up the Search History menu.

    Click on the blue Clear History text link at the bottom of the menu.

    Move your point over to the far-right side of the Google toolbar, then click on the square box that has a picture of a wrench to bring up the options menu.

    Click on the white box with a check mark that says "Save My Search History." Click on the Save button on the bottom-right side to prevent any further search terms from being saved and displayed.

  5. Method #2 - Mozilla Firefox

  6. Step 1

    Open the Firefox browser and click on the Tools button on the top menu bar.

    Choose the option that says "Clear Private Data." Make sure that all of the boxes are checked on the menu that will pop up and then click on "Clear Private Data Now."

  8. Step 3

    Close and re-open Firefox to fully delete the Google search history.

  9. Method #3 - Internet Explorer

  10. Step 1

    Open the Internet Explorer browser and click the Tools button on the far-right side of the menu bar. Click the Delete Browsing History button in the menu that will pop up.

    Click the Delete All button at the bottom of the menu.

  12. Step 3

    Close and re-open Internet Explorer to finish deleting the Google search history.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are several software programs you can use, such as Internet Tracks Washer, which will automatically delete your Google search history at specified intervals or every time you run the program.
