How to Make Balloon Archs

Balloon arches aren't difficult to make, and they can be a dramatic touch to a party entrance or park festivity. Helium balloons are more expensive to use in an arch, and the effect is almost the same with regular air-filled balloons. You might want to have a few friends with good lungs or an air compressor for assistance on the morning of the party! Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Decide how big an arch you want. If you're making an arch between two trees in a park, you'll need a shorter piece of pipe or plastic tubing than if you're making an arch that starts and ends from the ground. Measure how much pipe or tubing you will need and purchase it from a hardware store. The tubing should be lightweight and flexible.

Plan on blowing up the balloons and making the arch at the site of the party. Arches are bulky and difficult to transport once assembled. Have several helpers for inflating the balloons. Balloons lose their vibrancy after a few hours, so make the balloon arch the morning of the party.

Set up the pipe where you want the arch to be. You can tie the tubing against the trunk of the tree. If the arch is on the ground, stick the ends of the tubing into two lumps of clay and put the clay on the ground a few feet apart.

Blow up your balloons. You may want to blow up and attach as you go. The balloons can be attached with wire, string or tape to the piping. Cluster the balloons enough so that you can't see the pipe threaded beneath them.

Be creative. Use alternating colors for a pattern, make the arch all one color or make sections of colors for a rainbow effect.
