Your worst fear—front load washer mold! Front load washers are great, but a common problem that people have is mold buildup due to the way the door is constructed with a tight seal. The last thing you want growing inside your washing machine is mold! Fortunately there are ways to prevent front load washer mold. Read on to find out how.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The best thing you can do to prevent front load washer mold is to make sure you leave the door open. Leaving it open all the time is ideal, but if that is just not practical you can at least leave it open for 12 hours after doing a load in order to let it fully dry out. Closing the door right after a load while the inside is still wet is a recipe for mold due to the tight seal the door creates.

  2. Step 2

Another way to prevent front load washer mold is to be careful to wipe out the seal flaps of the door after you are done with a wash. Getting rid of that standing water right away will be a big help. You can then use that same towel to keep your door open a crack at all times if leaving it wide open won’t work for you.

  3. Step 3

A third way to prevent front load washer mold is to use bleach regularly. Bleach kills mold! To make it easier on yourself, try to wash whites separately which creates a load of laundry that can handle bleach safely.

Tips & Warnings
  • Adopt the above practices as soon as you start using your new front load washer to maximize mold prevention.
