Things You'll Need:
- Internet Connection
-
Step 1
Find Discounted Gift Cards. Many websites like giftcardsagain.com and abcgiftcards.com offer gift cards from both of these chains for up to 10% off. That means that before you even walk into the store you have a guaranteed savings on anything in the store.
-
Step 2
Use Coupons. Before you leave home to go to the store make sure you have a coupon for either Lowe's or Home Depot. It doesn't really matter which store you intend on shopping at because both companies will except their competitor's coupons. You can find coupons like these very easily by typing either Lowe's/Home Depot Coupons into the Google search engine.
-
Step 3
Shop Clearance. Both store have clearance items in each section of the store, so make sure to check these areas out. You might not get the exact item you wanted but the savings can be too great to resist.
-
Step 4
Ask For A Discount. If you find an item you want that is not on sale but has a minor defect you can ask an associate to mark the item down. Nine times out of ten they will and you will get the item marked down and still be able to use a coupon and discounted gift card to make the item even cheaper.

on 9/30/2009 I've also found if you have a credit card at either store you'll always get a 10% off or 12 month no financing coupon around every major holiday. So if you can put off shopping, then do.
