How to Clean Scratches and Scuff Marks From CDs and DVDs
If your DVD or CD no longer plays your film or song flawlessly, the disc may be scratched. But instead of tossing your DVD or CD in the trash, try to polish and repair it using a few tricks. Many common household products help smooth away scratches, so you have nothing to lose.
Things You'll Need
- Lip balm
- Toothpaste
- Furniture cleaner
- Peanut butter
- Coffee filter
- Metal polish
- Cloth

Rub some lip balm on the scratched area and buff it clean using a soft clean cloth or paper towel. Make sure you wipe it from the middle of the disc to the outer edge.

Rub a small amount of regular white toothpaste on the scratched surface and then buff it clean using a clean rag. Again, rub from the center to the outside.

Spray some furniture on your CD or DVD and then buff clean using a soft clean cloth or paper towel.

Place a small amount of creamy peanut butter on the scratched surface and buff it. Polish it with a clean cloth by rubbing from the middle to the outer edge.

Wipe your disc with a coffee filter, starting in the center and working outward. Use gentle motions.

Try a commercial metal polish. Dab on the polish and buff the disc clean using the same technique as in the previous steps.

Place hand sanitizer on your CD or DVD and buff it clean using a soft rag or paper towel.
