Step 1
First, ensure that the dishwasher is receiving power. Does the power indicator light turn on? If not, check to make sure it is plugged in. This may require unscrewing the dishwasher from the counter top mounts.

Look for interference with one of the dishwasher's normal functionsIf that does not fix the problem, go to the circuit breaker and shut off the power for your dishwasher.

Check for flooding underneath the dishwasher and anything else that may be unusual as you move it out from under the counter top.

Read the Manual!!If you do not have the manual handy, look now as you are pulling the dishwasher out. Many times there are manuals or troubleshooting sheets attached to the sides or top of the dishwasher.

Smell around the dishwasher to see if you smell anything like burnt wires or machine parts. If you do, stop now and call a professional electrician to fix the dishwasher.

If you do not smell burning parts, continue using the troubleshooting tips provided by the manufacturer.

Check the plumbing that provides water to the dishwasher. Ensure that the hoses are properly connected and providing water without leakage.

If you have not been able to locate the issue by now, you should contact a professional electrician or appliance repair-person to evaluate the dishwasher for you.
